Governor Nwifuru Lifts Suspension of 81 Government Officials in Ebonyi State

Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has officially lifted the suspension order placed on 81 top government officials, directing them to resume their duties with immediate effect.

The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Monday Uzor. According to the statement, the directive affects commissioners, permanent secretaries, senior special assistants, and special assistants who were earlier suspended on July 28, 2025.

The decision to recall the affected officials marks the end of a sweeping disciplinary action that stunned the Ebonyi State civil service last month.

The suspended officials included 25 commissioners, the State Attorney General, 22 permanent secretaries, 14 senior special assistants, and 24 special assistants. The suspension had been interpreted by many as a bold move by the governor to enforce discipline and re-evaluate performance within his administration.

Although the state government has not disclosed specific reasons behind either the initial suspension or the subsequent reinstatement, insiders say the governor’s action was part of a broader administrative shake-up aimed at repositioning the machinery of governance for greater efficiency.

Governor Nwifuru, who assumed office in May 2023, has repeatedly emphasized the importance of accountability, dedication, and professionalism among public officeholders.

The statement from Uzor noted that all reinstated officials are expected to return to their respective offices without delay and continue discharging their responsibilities in accordance with the policies and vision of the Nwifuru administration.

Political observers are watching closely to see whether this development signals the end of the disciplinary phase or if further reforms may follow in the coming weeks.
