Nigeria Customs Service Records Revenue Increase in Oyo,Osun Command
The Oyo/Osun Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has announced a substantial increase in revenue generation, with a total of N25,777,379,328.17 collected between March and May 2025.
This represents a 36.67% increase compared to the same period in 2024, when the command generated N18,168,204,255.04.
Comptroller Joseph Adelaja, the Customs Area Controller, attributed the command’s success to the dedication of its officers and men, effective enforcement of customs laws, and improved trade measures to facilitate legitimate trade.
He also highlighted the implementation of modern trade facilitation tools, which has enhanced compliance among excise stakeholders and reduced revenue leakages.
In addition to the revenue increase, the command has also recorded significant successes in its anti-smuggling activities. In the month of May 2025 alone, the command intercepted a substantial number of prohibited items with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N335,648,500.
These items include:
* 310 pieces of used compressors, cleverly concealed inside apple cartons, with a DPV of N9,300,000
* 1,698 bags (50kg each) of foreign parboiled rice, with a DPV of N153,780,000
* 130 kegs (25 litres each) of Premium Motor Spirit, with a DPV of N3,250,000
* 21 drums (125 litres each) of petrol, with a DPV of N3,150,000
* 226 pieces of used tyres, with a DPV of N18,080,000
* 67 sacks and 37 bales of used clothes, with a DPV of N40,200,000 and N26,640,000 respectively
* 130 wraps of used clothes, with a DPV of N26,000,000
* 4 sacks of used shoes, with a DPV of N3,360,000
* 68 wraps (39kg) of Cannabis Sativa, with a DPV of N1,228,500
The command also seized fake pharmaceuticals, including:
* 10 cartons of Everzorol Cream 20gm, with a DPV of N4,500,000
* 5 cartons (10 Amp) of Zytocin Oxytocin, with a DPV of N1,800,000
* 27 cartons of Phinimal Arteether Injection, with a DPV of N12,960,000
* 10 cartons of Areechy Zink Sulphate 20mg, with a DPV of N15,000,000
* 16 cartons of Biovilo 13.125mg, with a DPV of N2,400,000
Furthermore, the command seized two vehicles: a used Mazda bus (white colour) with a DPV of N5,000,000 and a used Toyota Sienna (metallic blue) with a DPV of N9,000,000.
Comptroller Adelaja revealed that the command has stepped up its efforts to safeguard lives and protect local industries. He announced that approval has been given to hand over the seized Cannabis Sativa to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and the counterfeit pharmaceuticals to the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) for further investigation.
The Customs Area Controller expressed his gratitude to the Comptroller General of Customs, BA Adeniyi, and his management team for their support. He also thanked the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, traditional rulers in Oyo and Osun states, and sister security agencies for their cooperation and assistance.
