The Oyo/Osun Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has announced a substantial increase in revenue generation, with a total of N25,777,379,328.17 collected between March and May 2025.

This represents a 36.67% increase compared to the same period in 2024, when the command generated N18,168,204,255.04.

Comptroller Joseph Adelaja, the Customs Area Controller, attributed the command’s success to the dedication of its officers and men, effective enforcement of customs laws, and improved trade measures to facilitate legitimate trade.

He also highlighted the implementation of modern trade facilitation tools, which has enhanced compliance among excise stakeholders and reduced revenue leakages.

In addition to the revenue increase, the command has also recorded significant successes in its anti-smuggling activities. In the month of May 2025 alone, the command intercepted a substantial number of prohibited items with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N335,648,500.

Furthermore, the command seized two vehicles: a used Mazda bus (white colour) with a DPV of N5,000,000 and a used Toyota Sienna (metallic blue) with a DPV of N9,000,000.

Comptroller Adelaja revealed that the command has stepped up its efforts to safeguard lives and protect local industries. He announced that approval has been given to hand over the seized Cannabis Sativa to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and the counterfeit pharmaceuticals to the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) for further investigation.

The Customs Area Controller expressed his gratitude to the Comptroller General of Customs, BA Adeniyi, and his management team for their support. He also thanked the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, traditional rulers in Oyo and Osun states, and sister security agencies for their cooperation and assistance.
