Niger State Cancels Sallah Durbar in Honour of Mokwa Flood Victims

In a sombre and respectful gesture, the Niger State government has announced the cancellation of Sallah Durbar celebrations across the 25 local government areas of the state.

This decision was made in honour of the victims of the recent Mokwa flood disaster, which has claimed the lives of at least 160 people and displaced over 3,000 others.

The cancellation of the Durbar celebrations, a traditional and highly anticipated event in the state, is a mark of respect and mourning for the victims of the tragic incident.

The Niger State government has also directed that the Sallah celebrations be observed in a low-key manner, in accordance with the mood of the state.

According to a statement released by the Secretary to the Government of Niger State, Abubakar Usman, the decision to cancel the Durbar celebrations was taken to allow for a period of mourning, prayer, and reflection.
