Former Diplomat and Peter Obi Ally, Oseloka Obaze, Resigns from Labour Party
Oseloka Obaze, a former diplomat and close associate of Peter Obi, has resigned from the Labour Party, citing his disapproval of the party’s recent governorship primary election in Anambra State.
Obaze, who served as Secretary to the Anambra State Government under Obi’s administration, had been a key advisor and chieftain of the party until his resignation.
In a letter addressed to the Labour Party Chairman in Ochuche Ward 406, Ogbaru Local Government Area, Anambra State, Obaze expressed his disappointment with the conduct of the April 5 governorship primary election, which he claimed was marred by “outright irregularities, bordering on fraud and criminality.”
He stated that the election process was not in line with the party’s constitution, core values, or democratic principles.
Obaze’s resignation, which took effect on April 6, was also motivated by the ongoing leadership crisis at the national level of the party, particularly the inability of stakeholders to reconcile the factions led by Abure and Nenadi Usman.
“The processes, conduct, and outcome of the Labour Party governorship primaries were fraught with irregularities. As such, I hereby disassociate myself from the Labour Party,” Obaze said.
Confirming the authenticity of his resignation letter, Obaze stated, “The letter is real and speaks for itself.”
This development marks the second time Obaze has resigned from a major political party, having previously left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2022, just a week before Peter Obi’s own departure.
Obaze went on to become Obi’s presidential placeholder in the Labour Party and later served as his campaign manager in the 2023 general election, playing a key role in the Obedient Movement.
