NDLEA Seizes Captagon in Kwara, Arrests Cocaine Trafficker in Nationwide Operations

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has announced a series of significant drug seizures and arrests across Nigeria, including the interception of the highly addictive stimulant drug, Captagon, in Kwara State.

In the Kwara operation, NDLEA operatives patrolling the Bode Saadu road intercepted a trailer and discovered 10 packs of Captagon otaling 10,000 pills alongside nine packets of Tapentadol in the possession of a 33-year-old passenger, Nasiru Mu’azu.

In a separate incident at the same patrol point, officers recovered over 170,000 capsules and tablets of various opioids, including Tramadol, Co-Codamol, and Bromazepam, hidden in a false compartment of another trailer, leading to the arrest of 24-year-old Aminu Isah.

In a concurrent operation in Oyo State, NDLEA agents intercepted a commercial bus en route to Sokoto at Akinyele, along the Ibadan–Oyo Expressway. A 33-year-old passenger, Eze Prince Emeka, who claimed to be a businessman, was detained after a body scan confirmed he had ingested illicit substances. Under close observation, the suspect excreted 45 pellets of cocaine weighing 1.043 kilograms. Investigators noted that the suspect had attempted to bypass airport security by traveling via the Sahara road route, with the intention of eventually reaching Europe.

NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi emphasized the gravity of the Captagon seizure, noting that the drug is often linked to criminal groups and conflict. NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), commended the operations, stating, “We are not just seizing pills; we are disrupting the fuel that powers violence in our communities.”

Beyond these incidents, the agency reported additional enforcement successes in Edo, Lagos, Bauchi, Ekiti, Cross River, and Niger states, involving the seizure of large quantities of opioids, cannabis, and even components for improvised explosive devices. The agency continues to maintain high alert across its regional commands to curb the trafficking of illicit substances.
