Radda-Led Council Backs Mineral Exploration Drive in Katsina

The Katsina State Executive Council has approved the procurement of modern equipment for mineral exploration and mining, as part of efforts to boost revenue generation and curb illegal mining activities across the state.

Managing Director of the Katsina State Mining and Exploration Company, Bello Isah Doro, disclosed this while briefing journalists after the Council’s seventh meeting for 2026, chaired by Governor Dikko Umaru Radda.

He explained that the equipment will be deployed to three strategic locations—Tama, Tandama, and Kankara—to strengthen exploration and extraction operations.

According to Doro, the approval reflects the state government’s deliberate push to reposition the solid minerals sector for greater productivity and economic growth.

“The acquisition of these tools will significantly boost our capacity to explore and harness mineral resources in the state, while also enhancing operational efficiency,” he said.

He added that the initiative would not only increase internally generated revenue but also address the persistent challenge of illegal mining, which has contributed to insecurity in parts of the state.

Doro further noted that the move is expected to generate employment opportunities, particularly for young people, while advancing the state’s economic diversification agenda.

He reaffirmed the company’s commitment to ensuring that mining operations adhere strictly to regulatory standards and global best practices.

The decision forms part of broader resolutions reached at the council meeting, highlighting the administration’s resolve to leverage natural resources for sustainable development.
