Shock in Delta as Man Pays N900,000 to Kidnap Aunt Who Raised Him
A 31 year old man in Delta State has been arrested for trying to kidnap the aunt who took care of him for 10 years.
Chukwemeka Destiny, a married father of two who runs a haulage and building materials business, paid N900,000 to people he thought were kidnappers. He wanted them to abduct the woman who had raised him from the age of five to 15 and supported him through school.
After leaving his aunt’s home at age 15, Destiny had little contact with the family. He was sometimes seen around the neighbourhood but never visited. Suddenly, he decided to have her kidnapped. He made two payments from his business money, first N200,000 as a deposit, and then N700,000 the next day. He later told police that something just came into his mind and he could not explain why he did it. He even blamed it on the devil’s work.
Unknown to Destiny, the people he contacted were not real kidnappers. They pretended to agree to the plan, took the money, and used him as bait. Instead of carrying out the abduction, they handed him over to the police. This quick action saved his aunt from harm. The Delta State Police Command paraded him on Saturday and praised the imposters for preventing the crime.
The aunt was deeply shocked when she heard what happened. She said she cried and could not believe that the boy she had trained would plan such a thing against her.
She urged the police to deal with him according to the law so that others would learn from it. The police spokesman, SP Bright Edafe, noted that cases of ingratitude like this are becoming common, where people turn against those who helped them.
Destiny is now in police custody and will face further investigation. The incident has left many people in the area surprised and sad, raising questions about family ties and betrayal. It serves as a strong reminder of the need to value and protect loved ones who sacrifice so much for others.
