Adelabu Resigns as Power Minister, Declares 2027 Oyo Governorship Ambition

Former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has confirmed that his resignation from the Federal Executive Council was motivated by his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in Oyo State under the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Adelabu disclosed that he stepped down from his ministerial position to seek the party’s ticket, describing the move as a necessary sacrifice to pursue his political ambition. I resigned to plead for the opportunity to represent our party as the governorship candidate in the 2027 general election,” he said. The former minister added that his aspiration is driven by a commitment to public service, noting that his intentions are sincere. “God sees my heart; He sees my plan to serve humanity and give my best,” Adelabu stated. His resignation is believed to be in line with a broader directive by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which requires political appointees seeking elective offices in 2027 to step down ahead of party primaries. Adelabu is no stranger to the Oyo governorship race, having previously contested the position. His renewed bid signals a return to the APC and sets the stage for what is expected to be a competitive primary within the party. Political observers say his declaration could reshape the dynamics within the APC in Oyo State, as aspirants begin consultations and mobilization ahead of the 2027 elections. The development also underscores the early build-up to the 2027 general elections, with political actors across the country already positioning themselves for key contests.
