The bid for the Lagos State All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship ticket by the Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, received significant backing on Thursday, April 23, 2026. During consultation visits, Hamzat secured public endorsements from key party figures, including the state APC Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, and the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Mudasiru Obasa.

Speaking at the party secretariat on Acme Road, Ojelabi expressed the party’s confidence in Hamzat’s competence and humility, affirming their support for his aspirations. The endorsements continued at the residences of Hon. Obasa and Senator Ganiyu Olarenwaju Solomon (GOS), where other party chieftains lauded Hamzat’s pedigree and leadership qualities.

During the interactions, Hamzat emphasized the critical importance of Lagos to Nigeria’s national stability, stressing the need for the party to maintain a firm grip on the state and ensure a resounding victory for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections. He urged party members to remain vigilant against opposition attempts to “de-market” the current administration’s achievements.

Hon. Obasa, in his declaration of support, stated that the decision to back Hamzat’s candidature had already been “sealed” following consultations with key stakeholders. Senator Ganiyu Solomon further echoed the call for mobilization, urging residents to demonstrate their loyalty to the party by turning out in force to cast their votes during the upcoming election.
