Soldiers Destroy Terrorists’ Boats, Kill Over 30 Near Borno Waterways
In a major blow to insurgent logistics, the Nigerian military has successfully neutralized over 30 terrorists during a high-stakes operation along the Borno State waterways.
The coordinated strike, carried out by troops of Operation Hadin Kai, also resulted in the complete destruction of several operational boats used by the militants to launch attacks and transport supplies.
Military sources confirmed that the operation took place in the early hours of Wednesday, April 22, 2026, following credible intelligence regarding a planned movement by ISWAP and Boko Haram remnants.
The terrorists were intercepted while attempting to navigate the riverine corridors leading to the Lake Chad fringes.
During the fierce exchange of fire, the troops’ superior firepower overwhelmed the insurgents, leading to the high casualty count. In addition to the destroyed boats, the military recovered a significant cache of arms, including anti-aircraft guns, several AK-47 rifles, and communication equipment.
The destruction of these vessels is seen as a strategic win, as it severely hampers the terrorists’ ability to conduct amphibious raids on surrounding communities.
The Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj. Gen. Edward Buba, stated that the military remains committed to clearing the remaining enclaves of the insurgents. He noted that the success of this operation was largely due to the “renewed synergy” between land and naval assets in the region.
Residents of the riverine communities have been urged to remain vigilant and continue providing timely information to security agencies.
This latest victory comes amid a broader military push in the North-East, which has seen the recapture of several strategic positions and the liberation of hundreds of civilians from insurgent holdouts in the past month.
