Resist Defection Stay, Build ADC, Gbajabiamila Urges Leke Abejide
The Chief of Staff to the President, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, has offered a strong vote of confidence in the political trajectory of Hon. Leke Abejide, urging the Kogi State lawmaker to remain committed to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Speaking on the floor of political discourse, Gbajabiamila described Abejide as a “principled politician” whose loyalty to his party has become a rare benchmark in Nigeria’s often fluid political landscape.
Gbajabiamila’s remarks highlighted Abejide’s unique achievement in securing consecutive electoral victories under the banner of the ADC, a party that, until his emergence, was considered a relatively minor player in Kogi State politics. The Chief of Staff noted that winning “back-to-back” elections on such a platform is a testament to Abejide’s grassroots connection and personal integrity, rather than the mere influence of a dominant national party machine.
The presidential aide further advised Abejide to resist the common trend of defecting to larger parties, encouraging him instead to “stay and fight” for the growth of the ADC. By maintaining his stance, Gbajabiamila suggested that Abejide could help foster a more robust multi-party democracy in Nigeria, proving that consistency and performance can outweigh the advantages of belonging to a “mainstream” political organization.
The advice comes at a time of heightened political alignment across the country, where many opposition figures are being courted by the ruling class. However, by publicly praising Abejide’s loyalty, Gbajabiamila has underscored the value of ideological steadfastness, positioning the Kogi lawmaker as a pivotal figure in the future of the ADC and a model for emerging leaders who seek to build lasting institutions rather than seek temporary political shelter.
