Supreme Court to Hear Appeals in PDP, ADC Crises

The Supreme Court of Nigeria has scheduled Tuesday for the hearing of multiple appeals arising from internal disputes within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Among the appeals are those filed by a faction of the PDP led by Kabiru Turaki, as well as a separate appeal by former Senate President and factional ADC chairman, David Mark.

The appeals challenge recent rulings of the Court of Appeal in Abuja, which upheld earlier Federal High Court decisions affecting party leadership and convention processes.

In the PDP-related cases, the appellate court had affirmed judgments restraining the party from conducting its planned national convention in November 2025 until it complied with statutory provisions, including the Electoral Act and guidelines governing political parties.

The rulings stemmed from suits filed by aggrieved party members and another by former Jigawa State governor, Sule Lamido, who argued that he was denied the opportunity to contest for the party’s chairmanship.

Separately, Mark’s appeal seeks to overturn a Court of Appeal decision that dismissed his earlier challenge in an ongoing leadership tussle within the ADC. The appellate court had ruled his case incompetent, upholding objections raised by a party chieftain.

The Supreme Court’s decision on the appeals is expected to have significant implications for leadership disputes and internal processes within both parties.
