Atiku’s Aide Faults Keyamo, Dismisses Tinubu’s ‘Myth of Invincibility’
A political disagreement has emerged between allies of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, over claims surrounding President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s political strength.
The controversy follows remarks by Keyamo, who praised Tinubu’s political acumen and described him as a dominant force in Nigeria’s political landscape. However, Atiku’s media aide, Phrank Shaibu, rejected the narrative, arguing that political reputation should not overshadow governance performance.
“Tinubu may have excelled in opposition politics, but governance is about results, not rhetoric,” Shaibu said. He added that “the myth of invincibility is often the last refuge of a failing narrative.” Shaibu stressed that Nigerians are more concerned with current socio-economic challenges than past political victories, noting that citizens are grappling with rising hardship across the country.
“Today, Nigerians are not asking who once outfoxed whom in 2007; they are asking why hunger is rising, why insecurity persists, and why the cost of living has become unbearable,” he stated.
The aide further argued that leadership should be assessed based on tangible improvements in the lives of citizens, rather than political strategy or historical dominance.
Keyamo, a prominent ally of the president, had earlier highlighted Tinubu’s track record in opposition politics, suggesting that his experience places him ahead of rivals as the country looks toward future elections.
The exchange reflects growing political tensions as stakeholders begin to position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections, with increasing focus on governance outcomes, economic conditions, and national security.
Observers say the debate signals a shift in political discourse, as public attention turns toward accountability and the impact of government policies on everyday life.
