Tension as Ibadan Indigenes Reject Fayose’s Allegations on Olubadan

The Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII) has criticised former Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose, over claims that Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde is planning to remove the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Rashidi Ladoja.

Fayose’s allegation, which has sparked reactions across Oyo State, was described by the council as unfounded and capable of causing unrest in Ibadanland.

In a statement issued by its Publicity Secretary, Kola Olomide, the group said the remarks were misleading and amounted to an attempt to politicise a revered traditional institution.

The CCII President-General, Ajeniyi Ajewole, expressed concern over what he termed interference in Ibadan affairs, warning that such comments could heighten tension in the city.

He said issues relating to the Olubadan stool follow established procedures that are not subject to political influence, urging the public to disregard the allegation.

Ajewole also cautioned Fayose against making statements that could misinform residents or create distrust, adding that Ibadan indigenes would resist any attempt to disrupt the area’s peace.

The council further defended Makinde, describing him as a committed indigene who would not act in a manner that undermines the traditional institution.

It added that Fayose’s involvement in the matter was unwarranted, stressing that he holds no role in the traditional or political structure of Ibadanland.

The group called on political actors nationwide to avoid inflammatory comments and reaffirmed its commitment to preserving unity, stability and respect for traditional institutions in Ibadan.
