West Ham Thrash Wolves to Exit Bottom Three; Spurs Slump into Relegation Zone
West Ham United breathed new life into their survival hopes on Friday night with a dominant 4-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers at the London Stadium.
The result lifts the Hammers out of the relegation zone and into 17th place, moving them two points clear of the drop.
The hosts took the lead just before the interval when Konstantinos Mavropanos connected with a Jarrod Bowen cross to power a header past Jose Sa. Despite a spirited start to the second half from Wolves, which saw Angel Gomes rattle the woodwork with a free-kick, the Hammers effectively ended the contest with a quick-fire double.
Summer signing Valentin “Taty” Castellanos took center stage in the 66th minute, finishing a slick team move to double the lead. Only three minutes later, Castellanos struck again—his shot taking a significant deflection off Andre—to make it 3-0 and leave the visitors reeling. Mavropanos then added gloss to the scoreline in the 83rd minute, hooking home his second of the night from a corner.
The evening’s results have dire consequences for Tottenham Hotspur, who have now officially dropped into the relegation zone (18th). Spurs, who have struggled for form throughout 2026, sit on 30 points and must now rely on a result against Sunderland on Sunday to climb back into safety.
While West Ham celebrates a vital three points, the outlook for Wolves appears increasingly bleak. Sitting rock bottom of the table and 15 points from safety with only six games remaining, Rob Edwards’ side is on the verge of a mathematical return to the Championship.
