INEC Urges Broadcasters to Uphold Fairness Ahead of 2027 Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has called on all broadcasters to remain fair and balanced as the country prepares for the 2027 general elections.

The commission wants media houses to give equal opportunity to different political parties and candidates. This is to ensure that voters get correct information and the election process stays transparent.

INEC reminded broadcasters of their important duty to inform the public without bias. They should avoid favouring any side and check facts before airing stories. The commission also warned against spreading false news that could mislead people during the election period.

This appeal comes as political activities begin to increase across the country. With many parties getting ready for primaries and campaigns, fair media coverage will help build trust in the electoral system. INEC believes responsible broadcasting is key to peaceful and credible polls.

Broadcasters have been asked to follow the guidelines set for election coverage.

This includes giving airtime fairly and presenting news in a balanced way. The commission is ready to work with media organisations to make sure everything runs smoothly.

Many Nigerians support this call because they want the 2027 elections to be free and fair. Good media practice from the start can reduce tension and help voters make informed choices. As the countdown to the polls continues, the focus remains on keeping the process honest and open for everyone.
