Plateau Killings Politicised to Sabotage Elections, Says Jang
Former Plateau State Governor, Jonah Jang, has alleged that ongoing killings in the state are being manipulated by certain individuals to undermine future elections.
Jang made the remarks during an interactive session with President Bola Tinubu in Jos, the Plateau State capital, on Friday.
Addressing the President, the former governor said the violence in the state was not new, noting that past administrations, including his own, had faced similar challenges.
Your Excellency, these killings have been here for a long time. I went through it, Dariye went through it, Lalong went through it,” Jang stated, referring to former governors of the state.
He, however, raised concerns over what he described as attempts by some actors to exploit the situation for political gains ahead of upcoming elections.
Mr. President, I can authoritatively tell you that some people want to use this killing to sabotage next elections, but we won’t allow them,” he added.
Jang’s comments come amid heightened concerns over insecurity in parts of Plateau State, where recurring attacks have continued to claim lives and displace communities.
President Tinubu is expected to engage with key stakeholders during his visit as part of efforts to address the security situation and promote lasting peace in the state.
