Sanwo-Olu Restates Commitment to Empowering Most Vulnerable Residents

Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has restated his commitment to empowering the most vulnerable residents of the state, particularly women, through the Micro Enterprise Support Initiative (MESI).
The initiative, driven by the Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, aims to equip beneficiaries with practical skills, tools, and capital to build a more secure future.
In a recent development, over 1,700 Lagosians benefited from the initiative, which is part of the state government’s efforts to tackle poverty at its roots.
The beneficiaries were empowered with tools and funds to grow their businesses, with the goal of creating sustainable income and contributing to the state’s economic growth.
Sanwo-Olu, who took to his social media page to announce the development, emphasized the importance of the informal sector to the state’s economy.
“The informal sector is the heartbeat of our economy, and by empowering it, we are strengthening the very foundation of our state’s progress,” he said.
The governor noted that the state government has invested close to N10 billion in the initiative, demonstrating its commitment to grassroots development. “We believe that real, lasting growth comes from the grassroots,” he said.
Sanwo-Olu urged the beneficiaries to use the tools and funds wisely, grow their businesses, and contribute to building a more prosperous Lagos for all. “These tools and funds are not the end, they’re just the beginning,” he said.
The Micro Enterprise Support Initiative is a bottom-up approach aimed at equipping beneficiaries with skills they already have or want to develop, with a visible impact on the state’s economy. The initiative is part of Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to ensuring that no one is left behind, especially the most vulnerable residents of the state.
