Super Eagles Set for International Friendlies Against Poland Portugal in June

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has confirmed that the Super Eagles will face European heavyweights Poland and Portugal in two high-profile international friendlies this June. The matches are designed to test the squad’s mettle against elite opposition as Nigeria looks to rebuild momentum following their recent absence from the World Cup qualifying ranks.

The NFF’s FIFA Match Agent, Jairo Pachon of Eurodata Sport, announced on Thursday that the Super Eagles will travel to Europe for two distinct challenges:

Wednesday, June 3, 2026: Nigeria vs. Poland

Venue: PGE Narodowy Stadium, Warsaw.

Wednesday, June 10, 2026: Nigeria vs. Portugal

Venue: Estádio Dr. Magalhães Pessoa, Leiria (Portugal).

The clash against Portugal, known as the Seleção das Quinas, will serve as the final warm-up match for the Portuguese side before they depart for North America to compete in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

After the disappointment of missing out on the 2026 World Cup, these friendlies represent a critical phase in head coach Éric Chelle’s strategy to reposition the three-time African champions.

The team enters the June window following a productive stint in Antalya, Turkey, where they secured a 2–1 victory over Iran and a 2–2 draw against Jordan. Chelle has been praised for integrating fresh talent like Akor Adams and Emmanuel Fernandez alongside stalwarts such as Wilfred Ndidi and Alex Iwobi.

“These matches against Poland and Portugal provide the exactly the kind of top-tier intensity we need,” an NFF spokesperson stated. “Our goal is to refine our tactical cohesion and ensure we are ready for the 2027 AFCON qualifiers.”

The June friendlies are part of a packed summer schedule for Nigeria. Before heading to Warsaw, the Super Eagles are slated to defend their title at the Unity Cup Tournament in London, scheduled for May 26 – 30.

With Portugal currently finalizing their Group K preparations for the World Cup where they are set to face DR Congo, Uzbekistan, and Colombia the match against Nigeria is expected to be a high-intensity affair.

For the Super Eagles, it is a chance to prove that despite their recent tournament setbacks, they remain a powerhouse of African football capable of competing with the world’s best.
