AIG Jimoh Orders Police Officers to Pay Transport Fares
The Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2 Command, Olohundare Jimoh, has directed officers under his jurisdiction to pay fares when using commercial vehicles, warning against any form of abuse of authority.
Jimoh issued the directive during an engagement with transport stakeholders in Lagos, stressing that the era of police officers boarding vehicles without payment must come to an end.
He noted that such practices undermine public trust and damage the image of the police. According to him, no officer has the right to forcefully enter a commercial vehicle without paying, adding that interactions between police personnel and members of the public must be based on mutual respect and professionalism.
The AIG cautioned that misconduct, including extortion, harassment, or intimidation of drivers and commuters, would not be tolerated. He reaffirmed a zero-tolerance stance on unprofessional behaviour and warned that officers found culpable would face disciplinary measures.
Jimoh also encouraged transport operators and members of the public to report any erring officers through appropriate channels, assuring that complaints would be treated promptly.
He further called for stronger cooperation between the police and transport workers to enhance safety and maintain order on the roads, noting that a cordial relationship is essential for effective policing.
The directive is part of ongoing efforts by the Nigeria Police Force to promote accountability, improve community relations, and restore public confidence in law enforcement.
