Wike Denies Working to Destabilise PDP, Trades Words with Bala Mohammed

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has launched a fresh attack on Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, describing him as “inconsistent” amid the deepening crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Wike made the remarks while addressing journalists in Abuja, where he dismissed claims by Mohammed that he was working to destabilise the party.

The FCT minister described the allegation as unfounded, insisting that the Bauchi governor’s position on key political issues has been erratic. According to Wike, Mohammed has a pattern of shifting allegiances, alleging that ahead of the 2023 general elections, the governor had privately expressed support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu before later changing his stance.

He further accused Mohammed of engaging in contradictory political moves, including attempts to influence internal PDP structures while simultaneously exploring alliances outside the party.

Wike said such actions undermine trust and stability within the opposition. The exchange follows earlier comments by Mohammed, who had accused Wike of acting in ways detrimental to the PDP’s unity.

The Bauchi governor has also hinted at possible political realignments, citing unresolved internal disputes within the party. Despite his criticisms, Wike reiterated his commitment to the PDP, while maintaining his support for President Tinubu, a stance that has continued to generate debate within party ranks.

The war of words between both leaders underscores the growing divisions within the PDP as it grapples with internal disagreements and shifting loyalties ahead of the 2027 general elections.
