Fubara Approves ₦100m Relief for Bille Community Over Gas Emissions
Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has approved interim relief measures for residents of Bille Kingdom following ongoing environmental degradation linked to gas emissions in the area.
The governor gave the assurance during a working visit to the community on Wednesday, reiterating his administration’s concern for the health and well-being of residents affected by the situation, which has persisted since November 2025.
Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Dagogo Wokoma, Fubara announced the release of ₦100 million as immediate palliative support to address urgent needs, including the provision of potable water and medical services.
He stated that the intervention is a temporary step aimed at alleviating the hardship faced by residents, while efforts continue toward a permanent solution to the environmental challenge.
According to him, the government is focused on tackling the root cause of the gas emissions affecting land and water sources in the community, noting that long-term measures are being considered.
He also urged residents to remain law-abiding and continue supporting the administration, assuring them of the government’s commitment to fulfilling its promises.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Council of Chiefs in Bille Kingdom, Bennet Dokubo, commended the governor’s response and described him as attentive to the concerns of the people.
Dokubo, however, raised alarm over the severity of the gas emissions, describing the situation as hazardous to human health and calling for urgent and thorough intervention.
