The DHQ is now using the National Identity Number (NIN) system to track repentant terrorists. This digital monitoring ensures that those who complete deradicalization do not return to insurgency.
Every graduate of the “Operation Safe Corridor” program is officially enrolled in the NIMC database. This allows security agencies to maintain permanent records and ensure high traceability across the country.
Biometric tracking works alongside community supervision involving traditional and religious leaders. These local stakeholders help monitor the conduct of rehabilitated individuals once they return to their home states.
General Yusuf Ali dismissed rumors that former insurgents are being recruited into the Nigerian military. He clarified that these individuals do not meet the strict requirements for enlistment in any security agency.
While the military handles rehabilitation, state governments manage the actual reintegration process. This partnership ensures that former combatants are supervised at the grassroots level by local authorities and families.
Officials maintain that the current tracking framework is effective despite the inherent risks. They noted that any return to crime by participants would be quickly identified through the national database.
