Troops have repelled an attack by gunmen on an illegal mining site in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The incident was detailed in a post shared on Thursday on X by security analyst Zagazola Makama.

According to security sources cited, the attack occurred around 9:00 p.m. on March 24 at a mining site in Rim village, where unidentified gunmen reportedly attempted to seize tin from miners.

Troops of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), under Sector 6, quickly responded and engaged the assailants, forcing them to flee into nearby bushes.

During the incident, one miner identified as Hanya Alamba was killed, while another victim, Mr. Gyang, sustained gunshot injuries. The injured victim was taken to the General Hospital in Riyom for treatment.
