The Federal Government has disbursed ₦688 billion to 9.2 million households over two years under the HOPE-CT programme, announced Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Dr Bernard Doro, as a key intervention to cushion economic reforms.
Each eligible household receives ₦75,000 in three tranches of ₦25,000. Over 9.17 million have received the first tranche, 7.2 million the second, and 6.5 million the third, with disbursements running from November 2023 to February 2026.
Women constitute 58.7% of beneficiaries, with 5.39 million women empowered as caregivers and entrepreneurs to strengthen community resilience.
Verification uses the National Social Register, NIN, or BVN. NIMC successfully verified over 11.8 million of 13.2 million records, with failed cases being analysed to improve transparency.
The programme is funded by an $800 million World Bank facility, and the target has been raised from 10.4 million to 15 million vulnerable Nigerians.
Implemented with multiple agencies and digital payments, the initiative aims to stabilise vulnerable households and deliver efficient relief amid macroeconomic adjustments.
