Zelenskyy Nominated for 2026 Nobel Peace Prize

By Momodu Favour

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has been nominated for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, in recognition of his leadership and efforts in the ongoing war with Russia.

According to available information, the nomination was submitted by Norwegian academic Dag Øistein Endsjø, who put forward Zelenskyy alongside the people of Ukraine for their role in “preserving the peace of European democracies against Russian aggression.”

The Nobel Peace Prize, awarded annually by the Norwegian Nobel Committee in Oslo, honours individuals or organisations that have made significant contributions to peace, conflict resolution, and international cooperation.

The 2026 winner is expected to be announced in October, with the award ceremony scheduled for December in Norway.

Zelenskyy’s nomination comes as Ukraine continues to defend its sovereignty following Russia’s full-scale invasion, with the Ukrainian leader playing a central role in rallying international support, securing military and humanitarian aid, and pushing for diplomatic solutions to end the conflict.

While nominations for the Nobel Peace Prize are often made public by those who submit them, the full list of candidates remains confidential, and being nominated does not guarantee selection.

The Nobel Committee typically receives hundreds of nominations each year from qualified individuals, including academics, lawmakers, and former laureates.

Zelenskyy joins a growing list of global figures and institutions proposed for the 2026 prize, highlighting the intense international focus on peace efforts amid ongoing geopolitical tensions.
