Tinubu Vows Stronger Action on Insecurity, Seeks Foreign Support
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to tackling insecurity across Nigeria, stating that his government will not allow security challenges to undermine efforts aimed at supporting vulnerable citizens.
Speaking on Sunday in Lagos while hosting Vice President Kashim Shettima and 23 state governors for the Eid-el-Fitr celebration, the President said discussions on improving Nigeria’s security featured prominently during his recent visit to the United Kingdom.
Tinubu disclosed that he has engaged international partners to strengthen Nigeria’s security capacity, including a recent conversation with Emmanuel Macron on the provision of equipment and support.
He said insecurity remains a major obstacle to development and prosperity, stressing the need for collective efforts to address the challenge. The President added that his administration is expanding contacts with other nations to enhance security interventions.
The President, who recently concluded a state visit to the United Kingdom where he met with Keir Starmer and was hosted by King Charles III, also warned of the potential economic impact of the Middle East crisis, particularly on inflation and purchasing power.
He urged state governors to implement policies that will cushion the effects of rising costs on citizens, especially in areas such as energy and transportation.
Tinubu further called on governors to remain committed to translating their ideas into impactful policies and to support the federal government in addressing criminal activities across the country.
He also commended Vice President Shettima for his recent condolence visit to Borno State and assured residents of improved security through the deployment of modern technology.
In his remarks, Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq expressed appreciation for the President’s leadership and the Renewed Hope Agenda.
AbdulRazaq also highlighted ongoing discussions on the establishment of state police, noting that the Governors’ Forum is working with security agencies and plans to present a legislative framework to the National Assembly.
The meeting was attended by governors from across the federation, who joined the President in marking the end of Ramadan and discussing key national issues, including security and economic stability.
