The Yobe State Independent Electoral Commission (YOSIEC) has officially scheduled local government elections for June 6, 2026.

This exercise will allow citizens to elect new Chairmen, Vice Chairmen, and Councillors across the state.

In a statement by Kadai Maaji Jumbam, the Commission confirmed that this move aligns with established electoral guidelines. The announcement marks the formal start of the transition process for grassroots leadership.

Nomination forms will be available for purchase between March 22 and March 31, 2026. Interested candidates must visit the YOSIEC office at the Ministry of Works premises on Gashua Road, Damaturu.

The Commission has set the form fees at N300,000 for Chairman, N250,000 for Vice Chairman, and N200,000 for Councillors. These non-refundable costs are mandatory for all aspiring candidates.

Jumbam urged political parties to ensure their candidates are fielded within the specified ten-day window. Timely compliance is essential for the smooth organization of the upcoming June polls.

These elections represent a vital step in providing direct governance to Yobe residents. The opening of form sales officially triggers the political race for leadership within the state’s local councils.
