Tinubu Returns to Lagos After Historic UK Visit, Joins Muslims for Eid Prayers
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Friday arrived in Lagos after a two-day state visit to the United Kingdom, where he secured a £746 million agreement to refurbish two major ports in the state.
The President landed at the Presidential Wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport at about 1:15 a.m., accompanied by his wife, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.
He was received by Lagos State Deputy Governor, Femi Hamzat; Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila; wife of the Lagos State Governor, Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu; and other All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders.
As part of activities marking the end of Ramadan, President Tinubu is expected to join other Muslim faithful for Eid-el-Fitr prayers at the Dodan Barracks prayer ground in Lagos later on Friday.
In his Eid message, the President urged Nigerian Muslims to uphold the values of piety, compassion and unity beyond the fasting period.
“We have a lot to draw from the noble lessons of Ramadan, especially at a time like this. We must continue to abide by the virtues of piety, selflessness, perseverance, kindness and compassion beyond this period,” he said.
During his visit to the UK, President Tinubu met with Prime Minister Keir Starmer at Downing Street, where both leaders agreed on a £746 million deal aimed at modernising key port infrastructure in Lagos.
The President described the visit—the first state visit by a Nigerian leader to the UK in 37 years—as significant for strengthening bilateral relations between both countries.
He noted that discussions with UK officials focused on trade, economic cooperation, climate change, terrorism and other global challenges.
President Tinubu and the First Lady were also hosted by Charles III at a state banquet held at Windsor Castle, where the Nigerian leader highlighted the shared vision of progress and resilience between Nigeria and the UK.
“Our two nations share a vision of progress and resilience. Today, we continue that journey, committed to building a future rooted in partnership, mutual respect, and common values,” Tinubu said.
The visit featured ceremonial honours, including a guard of honour and a 42-gun salute by the King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery.
