The Nigeria Police Force has distributed ₦2.4bn in insurance benefits to 1,075 families of deceased officers.
The Inspector-General presented these cheques in Abuja under the Group Life Assurance and IGP Family Welfare Schemes. This initiative underscores the Force’s commitment to supporting the families of fallen personnel.
The ₦2,435,421,584.11 total covers multiple policy years between 2018 and 2026. This disbursement successfully clears long-standing insurance claims that had been delayed for years. By resolving these backlogs, the Force ensured that vital entitlements finally reached the rightful next-of-kin.
Force Insurance Officer ACP Lydia Ameh stated that the payments honor the sacrifices of fallen heroes. She noted that the Force is now enforcing stricter compliance with insurers to prevent future settlement delays.
The unit remains dedicated to maintaining a transparent and efficient process for all insurance claims.
The IGP described the financial support as a symbol of the Force’s enduring responsibility to its members. While acknowledging that money cannot replace lost lives, he framed the funds as a token of national gratitude. The initiative aims to provide stability for families while honoring the courage of those who served.
To improve efficiency, the IGP pledged to modernize welfare frameworks and streamline administrative processes. He announced that technology would be used to digitize claims processing and eliminate unnecessary bureaucratic hurdles.
This shift is intended to ensure that all future beneficiaries receive their payments more promptly.
The Police Force reaffirmed that the sacrifices of its officers are vital to national security. The administration continues to redesign its welfare architecture to better serve both active and departed personnel.
The ceremony concluded with the emotional distribution of cheques to the families present.
