The Delta State Police Command has arrested notorious cult leaders linked to a January 2026 murder in Ughelli.
This breakthrough followed an intensive investigation by the CP-Special Assignment Team into a conspiracy involving local cult-related killings.
Acting on intelligence, operatives led by ASP Julius Robinson raided a hotel in Ekuigbo on March 6. The operation targeted the specific hideout where principal suspects had been sheltering since the fatal incident in Iwhrekpokpo.
Among those caught is 30-year-old Joshua Okpogona, identified as the current leader of the Supreme Vikings Confraternity in Ughelli. Police allege he was the primary mastermind behind the recent murder, marking a major blow to the group.
Also arrested was 37-year-old Raphael Omokerhe, known as “Black Python,” the group’s immediate past leader. He is allegedly deeply involved in the conspiracy and the cycle of violence that has plagued the Ughelli region.
In a separate Asaba raid on March 8, police arrested 22-year-old Chukwudi Ekenna at a criminal hideout. Officers recovered a fabricated Beretta pistol, two locally made guns, and ten live cartridges intended for robbery and cult activities.
Police spokesperson SP Bright Edafe confirmed the suspects are in custody and providing useful information. Authorities are now intensifying efforts to track down and apprehend other fleeing members of the criminal network.
Commissioner of Police Aina Adesola reaffirmed the command’s commitment to crushing cultism and violent crime across Delta State. He urged residents to continue providing timely tips, noting that community cooperation remains vital for public safety.
