Fulani Group Accuses Military of Killing Cows in Plateau

By 𝔸bdulrazak Tomiwa

A Fulani socio-cultural group has accused military personnel of killing nine cows in a Plateau State community. The group labeled the act a direct attack on their livelihood and a violation of their fundamental rights.

The incident allegedly occurred in a rural grazing area where soldiers reportedly opened fire on the cattle. Several animals died instantly, while others sustained injuries during the unprovoked shooting, according to the group.

Leadership of the association condemned the military’s actions as unprofessional and a threat to regional peace. They warned that such conduct exacerbates existing tensions in an already volatile security environment.

The group claimed this is part of a pattern of harassment and intimidation by security agencies. They noted that pastoralists frequently report the destruction of livestock, which is essential to their economic survival.

A formal call was made to the military high command and the state government for a thorough investigation. The group demanded that the officers involved be identified and held accountable for their actions.

Furthermore, the association requested immediate and fair financial compensation for the cattle owners. They stressed that justice is necessary to prevent the affected families from feeling targeted by the state.

Despite the loss, the group urged Fulani youth to remain calm and law-abiding while seeking justice. They emphasized using legal and administrative channels rather than resorting to self-help or retaliation.

Military authorities have yet to issue an official response regarding the specific allegations. The community remains in a state of high tension while awaiting a formal inquiry into the incident.
