Governor Lawal Joins APC as 31st Governor

By 𝔸bdulrazak Tomiwa

Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal has defected from the PDP to the APC, making him the 31st governor under the ruling party. This move follows a period of intense internal crisis within the opposition.

The governor defected alongside his deputy, Malam Mani Mummuni, and several state lawmakers and cabinet members. This mass exit represents a significant shift in Zamfara’s political leadership.

Acting Governor Mummuni announced the decision following extensive consultations with state stakeholders at the Government House. The move was framed as a strategic step for the state’s future.

The defection was attributed to the deepening turmoil within the PDP and the need for a united front. Leaders believe joining the APC will better address Zamfara’s security challenges.

The transition aims to align Zamfara with President Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” development agenda. Supporters have been urged to begin the APC e-registration process immediately to strengthen the party.

This move leaves the PDP in a severely weakened state, with only two governors remaining nationwide.

The party now controls only Oyo and Bauchi states following Lawal’s departure.

APC chieftain Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi welcomed the Governor, describing the development as a progressive step for state stability. He noted that the APC remains an inclusive platform for growth.

The party expressed confidence that this realignment will secure future electoral victories in the state. Leaders are now focused on unifying members to support the federal government’s national objectives.
