Nigerian Special Forces from Operation Hadin Kai successfully repelled a daring night attack by terrorists in the Sambisa Forest, Borno State. The encounter took place during a clearance operation, resulting in at least two insurgents being neutralized while the military suffered no casualties.
The assault began around 2:20 a.m. on Sunday when the terrorists attempted to catch the troops off guard at their position. However, the soldiers maintained a high state of alert and quickly engaged the attackers in a fierce firefight, forcing them to retreat into the dense forest.
Initial military assessments confirmed that no soldiers were killed or wounded during the skirmish. Additionally, all military hardware remained intact, highlighting the tactical discipline and preparedness of the Special Forces team involved.
Following the shootout, troops conducted an exploitation of the immediate area, where they discovered the bodies of two terrorists. Significant blood trails nearby suggested that the fleeing insurgents evacuated several other dead and injured comrades during their retreat.
The operation led to the recovery of heavy weaponry, including one PKT machine gun and three rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) bombs. This seizure effectively diminished the fire support capabilities of the local insurgent cell.
Troops also confiscated a large cache of ammunition, comprising 51 rounds of 7.62 x 51mm and 108 rounds of 7.62 x 54mm. In addition to the munitions, security forces seized communication tools, including two Baofeng radios, an Android phone, and multiple SIM cards.
Commanders report that morale remains exceptionally high among the troops as they continue their sweep of the region. These ongoing efforts are part of the broader Operation Desert Sanity, aimed at completely flushing out remnants of terrorist groups from their forest hideouts.
