Peter Obi has declared that no authority can restrict his movement within Nigeria. His comments follow Governor Monday Okpebholo’s demand that Obi obtain security clearance before visiting Edo State.
Governor Okpebholo claimed a previous visit by Obi to a nursing school triggered local unrest. Obi dismissed this as an attempt to politicize his charitable efforts for ordinary citizens.
During a donation at Christ the King College, Obi emphasized that his travels focus on nation-building. He expressed disappointment that his investments in health and education were met with hostility.
Obi argued that Nigeria cannot progress if citizens are threatened for being productive. He suggested that leaders should instead complement the efforts of individuals who help alleviate poverty.
The former governor reiterated his commitment to visiting all parts of the country for his causes. He maintained that as a citizen, he has a constitutional right to move freely.
Obi clarified that his primary focus is solving the nation’s fundamental challenges. He believes prioritizing education and healthcare secures a better future for Nigerian youth everywhere.
He asserted his determination to continue his philanthropic interventions across the federation without fear. He remains resolute in his mission to support social infrastructure and national development.
Addressing the governor’s stance, Obi stated, “I am not afraid of visiting any state in Nigeria, particularly when the purpose is to support causes that contribute to nation-building, such as education, health, and poverty alleviation. Our society is not going to work by threatening people. What I expect the governor to do is to complement efforts aimed at improving society.”
