Lam-Adesina Joins Oyo Guber Bid, Says I Lack Money for Big Campaign but Trust God
Dr. Ayo Lam-Adesina, son of former Oyo State Governor, Lam Adesina, has revealed that he does not have the financial strength for a large-scale campaign ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Oyo State, adding that his aspiration is guided by faith and a desire to serve.
He made the disclosure while speaking with journalists during the announcement of his intention to contest the governorship on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Lam-Adesina stated that his motivation is rooted in service and trust in God, expressing hope to restore Oyo State as a place where opportunities are accessible to all.
Lam-Adesina said his political outlook was influenced by the ideals associated with his late father and prominent South-West leaders, particularly their emphasis on equal access to opportunities, free education, and governance that focuses on the welfare of the people.
He noted that these progressive principles remain central to his vision for the state.
He expressed concern about what he described as declining standards in public services, especially in education and healthcare. Referring to medical outreach programmes he sponsored, Lam-Adesina said many residents were found to have untreated conditions such as hypertension and diabetes, which he described as troubling.
The aspirant also spoke about his decision to remain largely in the background of partisan politics since the death of his father 13 years ago. According to him, he devoted that period to strengthening unity within the party and turned down offers of government appointments at both federal and state levels to avoid being seen as relying on family influence.
Lam-Adesina explained that his ambition is linked to sustaining what he described as the “Lamist ideology,” a political philosophy inspired by his father’s legacy. He said his background informs his values but insisted that his ambition is focused on building a better future for younger generations.
On party matters, he congratulated former Deputy Governor Moses Alake Adeyemo on his emergence as chairman of the APC in Oyo State, describing him as a leader capable of fostering unity within the party ahead of the 2027 elections.
While acknowledging that money plays an increasing role in Nigerian politics, Lam-Adesina maintained that clear ideas and a compelling vision remain essential.
He warned that neglecting education and employment opportunities could create social tensions in the South-West, similar to security challenges experienced in parts of Northern Nigeria.
He added that his next steps would involve consultations with party stakeholders and established political groups across the state, while promising leadership that would cater to both privileged and disadvantaged citizens.
