Gbajabiamila Seeks Public Support for Education as Materials Reach Surulere Schools

The Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, has appealed to individuals and organisations to partner with government in efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s education sector.

He made the appeal on Wednesday during the distribution of learning materials to students in 23 secondary schools across Surulere in Lagos State.

Among the beneficiary institutions were Ajigbeda Secondary School, Iyun; Stadium High School, Iyun; Surulere Girls High School, Empire; Akintan Secondary School; Gbaja Girls Secondary School; and New Era Girls Secondary School.

Students received thousands of items, including textbooks, exercise books, school bags and mathematical sets as part of the outreach.

Gbajabiamila, who was represented by the member representing Surulere Federal Constituency I in the House of Representatives, Fouad Laguda, described education as a critical driver of national progress.

He stressed that meaningful development depends largely on the quality of education available to citizens and noted that government efforts alone would not be sufficient to transform the sector.

He therefore encouraged well-meaning individuals and stakeholders to contribute toward improving educational standards.

The Vice-Chairman of Surulere Local Government, Muiz Dosunmu, who spoke during one of the presentations, praised Gbajabiamila for his continued interventions in the area. He described the initiative as evidence of dedicated leadership and urged students to make proper use of the materials by committing themselves to their studies.

Also speaking, the Principal of Stadium Secondary School, Christiana Badejo, said the donation represented an important investment in both the students and the country’s future. She expressed appreciation on behalf of the school community and prayed for continued success for the Chief of Staff.

At Ajigbeda Secondary School, a prefect, Aisha Jimoh, conveyed the gratitude of the students, promising that the materials would be used effectively to support their academic performance.

The lawmaker representing Surulere Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Desmond Elliot, also stood in for the Chief of Staff during similar distributions at some of the participating schools.

The outreach came shortly after Gbajabiamila encouraged Nigerians, especially those with financial means, to use the Ramadan period to support vulnerable members of society. Speaking at a Ramadan lecture organised in partnership with the Council of Imams and Alfas in Surulere, he said the season should inspire generosity and compassion in addition to fasting and prayers, noting that leadership and wealth carry responsibilities toward others.
