Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has approached a Federal High Court in Abuja seeking to quash criminal charges filed against him by the Department of State Services (DSS), describing the allegations as “incompetent, unconstitutional and an abuse of court process.”
In a legal application filed before the court, El-Rufai’s team argued that the charges disclose no offence recognized by law, lack a prima facie case, and constitute a gross abuse of the judicial process.
He also asked the court to discharge him entirely, insisting that the case is without merit and designed to harass him.
El-Rufai, a prominent figure in the ruling party and frequent critic of government policies, has not publicly commented on the specifics of the DSS allegations.
Legal observers note that the move represents a bold challenge to the agency’s prosecutorial actions, which in recent years have drawn criticism for alleged overreach in politically sensitive cases.
The Federal High Court has not yet fixed a date for hearing in the matter. Analysts suggest the case could have significant political implications, given El-Rufai’s continued influence in national politics.
