Satriano Stuns Madrid as Getafe Claim Shock Victory at Bernabeu

Real Madrid suffered a damaging 1-0 home defeat to Getafe CF on Monday night, as Martin Satriano’s stunning first-half strike sealed an unexpected triumph at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The setback leaves Madrid four points adrift of league leaders FC Barcelona after 26 matches, missing the opportunity to close the gap at the summit of La Liga. It also marks a second consecutive league loss for the capital side.

The decisive moment arrived shortly before the interval when Satriano unleashed a superb volley that flew beyond Thibaut Courtois and into the top corner, silencing the home crowd.

The goal proved enough to secure all three points for a disciplined and resolute Getafe side.

Madrid, who were once again without injured forward, Kylian Mbappé, struggled to break down a well-organised visiting defence marshalled expertly in front of goalkeeper David Soria. Mbappe continues to recover from a knee ligament issue that has sidelined him since late 2025.

Before falling behind, the hosts had a clear chance to take the lead when Vinícius Júnior raced through on goal, only to be denied by a sharp stop from Soria.

Manager Álvaro Arbeloa reacted swiftly after the restart, making three changes within the opening 10 minutes of the second half, including the withdrawal of Trent Alexander-Arnold. The substitutions injected urgency into Madrid’s play, with the home side increasingly threatening from wide areas and aerial deliveries.

Antonio Rüdiger glanced a header narrowly wide at the near post, while substitute Rodrygo directed a looping effort across the face of goal that eluded everyone, including Dani Carvajal at the far post.

Frustration boiled over in stoppage time when teenager Franco Mastantuono was shown a straight red card for dissent towards referee Alejandro Muñiz Ruiz. Moments later, Getafe’s Adrián Liso also received his marching orders after picking up a second yellow card for time-wasting.

The defeat represents Arbeloa’s fourth loss in 12 matches in charge, with injuries to key players including Mbappe and midfielder Jude Bellingham complicating his task.

Madrid will attempt to halt their slide when they travel to face Celta Vigo on Friday evening, aiming to avoid a third successive league defeat and reignite their title challenge.
