Ogun PDP Youth Leader Dumps Party
The Youth Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, Oyejide Sunkanmi, has resigned his membership from the opposition party, marking another high-profile defection ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Sunkanmi, who served as the PDP Youth Leader in the state, announced his decision in a resignation letter addressed to the Ogun State Chairman of the party.
In the letter, he expressed appreciation to party leaders and members for the opportunities and support he received during his 12 years of active involvement in the PDP.
Describing his time in the party as a significant chapter in his political journey, Sunkanmi thanked stakeholders at the ward, local government and state levels for their cooperation throughout his tenure.
Although he did not formally disclose his next political destination in the resignation letter, party sources indicated that he is expected to align with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State.
As of the time of filing this report, the Ogun State chapter of the PDP had yet to issue an official statement reacting to the development.
Sunkanmi’s departure comes amid a wave of defections and internal realignments within political parties across the country as preparations intensify for the 2027 elections.
Political observers say the exit of youth leaders and grassroots mobilisers could impact party structures at the local level, particularly in mobilising young voters.
