Former Delta Deputy Governor, Elue Passes Away at 85

Chief Benjamin Elue, who served as Deputy Governor of Delta State between 1999 and 2007, has died at the age of 85.

His passing was confirmed in a statement by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, who expressed deep sorrow and described the late statesman as a dedicated public servant and loyal party member whose contributions shaped the growth and stability of the state.

Elue served under former Governor James Ibori during the early years of the Fourth Republic and was widely regarded for his humility, administrative experience and commitment to governance.

The governor’s condolence message, issued by his Chief Press Secretary, noted that the news of Elue’s death was received with shock but also with gratitude for his long life of service to Delta State and Nigeria.

Beyond politics, Elue was also recognised as a teacher and mentor who influenced younger generations. His calm disposition and advocacy for unity were credited with strengthening democratic governance during his tenure. Political leaders and associates have described him as a man of integrity whose legacy of public service remains significant.

Governor Oborevwori extended condolences to the Elue family, the people of Aniocha North, and the wider Delta North Senatorial District, praying for strength for those mourning the loss.

He affirmed that the former deputy governor’s contributions to the state would be remembered and honoured.
