ICPC Raids El‑Rufai’s Abuja Residence over Ongoing Investigations
Operatives of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) have conducted a search of the Abuja residence of Malam Nasir El‑Rufai, former governor of Kaduna State, as part of ongoing investigations into alleged financial misconduct during his tenure.
The raid, which took place at his Aso Drive home in Abuja, comes days after El‑Rufai was transferred to ICPC custody from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), where he had been briefly detained for questioning. El‑Rufai has spent a second night in the custody of the anti‑graft agency, although specific allegations and details of evidence have not been publicly disclosed by the ICPC. Speaking on the development, El‑Rufai’s lawyer, Ubong Akpan, condemned the raid, describing it as unlawful and a violation of the former governor’s legal rights. The former governor’s media aide, Muyiwa Adekeye, also confirmed the operation on social media, noting the ICPC search occurred without prior notification. The raid forms part of broader probes into alleged financial irregularities during El‑Rufai’s eight‑year tenure as Kaduna State governor (2015–2023). Authorities have not indicated whether any items were seized during the search or whether formal charges will be filed in the coming days.
