The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Limited) has recorded a significant milestone in its global repositioning drive as its Group Chief Executive Officer, Bashir Bayo Ojulari, was conferred with the prestigious Fellowship of the Energy Institute, United Kingdom.

The Fellowship, regarded as one of the highest professional honours in the global energy industry, was formally presented during International Energy Week in London.

The event is a leading global confidence platform that convenes policymakers, industry leaders, financiers, regulators and technology experts to deliberate on critical energy issues.

NNPC Limited disclosed the development in a statement issued on Friday in Abuja, describing the honour as a major boost to investor confidence in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector and a strong endorsement of the company’s ongoing transformation.

The Fellowship was presented by the President of the Energy Institute, Andy Brown, who commended Ojulari’s transformative leadership and strategic direction at the helm of Nigeria’s national energy company.

According to Brown, the award recognises Ojulari’s sustained and high-impact contributions to the advancement of the energy sector, particularly his role in shaping NNPC Limited’s enterprise-wide strategy, strengthening governance frameworks, embedding operational discipline and fostering a performance-driven culture.

Under his leadership, the company has intensified investor-focused reforms, strengthened execution excellence and expanded strategic global partnerships.

These measures, the statement noted, have enhanced confidence in Nigeria’s energy sector and repositioned NNPC Limited as a commercially viable and transparent enterprise.

The company stated that beyond its personal significance to Ojulari, the Fellowship represents a strong institutional endorsement of NNPC Limited’s transformation into a commercially focused and globally competitive energy company aligned with international best practices in governance, sustainability and energy transition management.

Being recognised at International Energy Week, the statement added, places the company’s leadership at the centre of global conversations on energy security, transition pathways, capital formation and sustainable development.

The recognition comes at a time when the Federal Government is implementing reforms aimed at increasing oil production, expanding gas utilisation and strengthening the commercial viability of NNPC Limited to boost government revenue.

Since the implementation of the Petroleum Industry Act, NNPC Limited has embarked on corporate governance reforms, operational restructuring and strategic partnerships with global investors to improve efficiency, transparency and profitability.

The Fellowship, the company noted, affirms that NNPC Limited is increasingly viewed as a credible, reform-oriented and investment-ready energy enterprise, reinforcing its role as a key driver of Africa’s energy security and transition agenda.

“Under Ojulari’s leadership, NNPC Limited remains committed to delivering sustainable value, strengthening Nigeria’s energy security and positioning itself as a trusted global energy partner,” the statement concluded.
