Peter Obi, Sanwo‑Olu Felicitate with Nigerians as Lent, Ramadan Begin
Former presidential candidate Peter Obi and Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo‑Olu have extended goodwill messages to Nigerians as Lent and Ramadan commence today.
Obi described the simultaneous start of the Christian and Muslim fasting periods as “a rare spiritual convergence” and urged Nigerians to use the season for reflection, compassion, and national unity. He emphasized the shared values of fasting, prayer, and thanksgiving, encouraging citizens to embrace both personal devotion and collective harmony. Governor Sanwo‑Olu, in his message, wished Muslim faithful in Lagos a peaceful and spiritually fulfilling Ramadan, praying for strength, clarity, and abundant blessings throughout the holy month. Other leaders, including First Lady Oluremi Tinubu and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, also sent greetings to Christians and Muslims, urging citizens to deepen love, harmony, and unity across the country. Religious authorities confirmed February 18 as the first day of Ramadan following the sighting of the new moon, while Christians observed Ash Wednesday, marking the beginning of Lent. Analysts note that this rare alignment offers Nigerians an opportunity for interfaith dialogue, mutual respect, and peaceful coexistence amid ongoing social and economic challenges.
