Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and Niger Governor, Mohammed Bago have pledged to align their security strategies following devastating attacks in the Borgu Emirate.
This collaboration aims to protect shared borders and restore stability to displaced communities.
Governor AbdulRazaq described the violence as heartbreaking, noting it has claimed lives and ruined livelihoods. The growing insecurity along the Kwara-Niger frontier has necessitated a unified military and intelligence response to safeguard residents.
The regional threat has spiked, with reports of over 176 people kidnapped in Kwara’s Kaiama area and several villages receiving terror warning letters.
These developments have placed both states on high alert as they look to flush out insurgents.
In Niger State, security forces are currently intensifying efforts to clear terrorists from the Kainji forest. The new joint partnership will enhance border patrols and intelligence sharing to prevent insurgents from using the forest as a transit hub.
As Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, AbdulRazaq reaffirmed that both states will work closely with federal authorities. The goal is to dismantle terrorist logistics and ensure a more secure environment for all border-town inhabitants.
