US Military Specialists Land in Bauchi to Train Nigerian Forces

The Defence Headquarters has announced the arrival of approximately 100 U.S. military personnel and equipment at Bauchi Airfield.

This deployment follows a formal request by the Federal Government for specialized training, technical support, and intelligence sharing to bolster national security.

The collaboration provides the Armed Forces of Nigeria with advanced technical capabilities to better deter terrorist threats.

This strategic partnership is specifically designed to enhance the protection of vulnerable communities and strengthen the country’s overall defense architecture.

The DHQ clarified that the U.S. personnel are technical specialists serving strictly in advisory roles, not as combat forces. All training activities will be conducted under the direct authority and control of the Nigerian Government and in coordination with the military.

Joint training and intelligence-focused initiatives will begin immediately to help Nigerian troops identify and neutralize extremist groups.

These efforts aim to boost the capacity of local forces to effectively counter organizations seeking to destabilize the nation.

Major General Samaila Uba reaffirmed the military’s dedication to defeating terrorists and maintaining national sovereignty. He assured the public of continued transparency, promising timely and accurate updates on the progress of these international cooperation efforts.

Regarding the mission’s scope, Major General Uba stated, “At the invitation of the Government of Nigeria and in continuation of our longstanding security cooperation and military-to-military partnership with the United States, Nigeria will host a contingent of United States technical and training personnel.”
