The Ondo State Amotekun Corps has arrested 95 suspects for kidnapping, theft, and illegal mining across the state’s 18 local government areas.
These arrests were part of a wide-scale security sweep to curb rising criminal activities.
Commander Akogun Adeleye credited the success to a joint effort with the Police, DSS, and Army. Among the detainees are 12 individuals specifically linked to kidnapping cases in restive zones like Akure North.
The operation also intercepted a trailer carrying 61 men who are currently being profiled. Additionally, 19 people were held for public disturbance, while three others faced charges for violating anti-grazing laws.
Regarding the breakthrough, Adeleye noted, “In the last few weeks, there have been concerted efforts by all security agencies in the state, especially Amotekun, the police, civil defence, and the DSS, in tracking suspected criminals, and I want to say that it has actually yielded very good results.”
The commander expressed confidence that these arrests in flashpoints like Ogbese and Alagbaka would significantly restore peace. He emphasized that ongoing joint operations are essential for maintaining security and protecting property.
Adeleye concluded by warning that Ondo remains a hostile environment for criminals. He reaffirmed the corps’ commitment to working with sister agencies to ensure all lawbreakers face decisive legal action.
