Suspected bandits have launched a fresh attack on the Kakafu community in Kwara State, reportedly abducting four residents during a midnight raid. The incident has reignited fear in the region, which has been grappling with a surge in violent kidnappings and communal attacks over recent months.
The gunmen, who were said to be heavily armed, stormed the village while residents were asleep, shooting sporadically to intimidate the community.
According to local sources, the attackers operated for some time before whisking their victims away into the nearby forest.
This latest raid follows a series of similar attacks in Kwara’s rural areas, including the recent abduction of farmers and worshippers in neighboring local government areas. The escalating insecurity has forced many residents to abandon their homes and farms out of fear for their lives.
The Kwara State Police Command has been alerted to the situation and has reportedly deployed tactical teams to track the kidnappers. While an official statement on the Kakafu incident is still expected, the police have previously reassured the public of their commitment to rescuing all victims.
Regarding the state’s security efforts, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq recently emphasized the government’s resolve to protect its citizens, stating. “Kwara will not be a hiding place for criminals. To any criminal who seeks to destabilise the peace in Kwara, you may run, but you cannot escape justice.”
Vigilante groups and local hunters are currently working in collaboration with security forces to comb the bushes for the missing residents. The community remains on high alert as authorities intensify their search-and-rescue operations to ensure the victims’ safe return.
