Fubara Says Measured Approach in Rivers Crisis Aimed at Preserving Peace

The Rivers state governor, Siminalayi Fubara has stated that his restrained posture during the political upheaval in Rivers State was a conscious decision taken to safeguard peace and protect broader national interests.

Speaking on Friday night in Lagos, the governor reflected on the ongoing tensions in his state while receiving the 2025 Man of the Year honour from New Telegraph. The ceremony was held at the Oriental Hotel.

Fubara acknowledged the difficulties experienced by his supporters throughout the crisis, noting that those who stood with him have faced significant strain. He encouraged them to remain steadfast and assured them that their patience and loyalty would not be in vain.

The governor explained that his calm and non-confrontational stance was deliberate, describing it as a strategic choice designed to maintain stability in Rivers State and prevent further escalation.

He maintained that what some perceive as weakness should instead be seen as a calculated effort to preserve unity and peace.

Reaffirming his confidence in eventual progress, Fubara urged his followers to continue trusting in his leadership, adding that restraint can yield positive outcomes over time.

The award was presented by veteran journalist and former Ogun State governor Olusegun Osoba. Also present at the event were the Chairman of the Board of New Telegraph, Orji Uzor Kalu, and the Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal.
