NEMA Leads Multi-Agency Response to Fire at Singa Market, Kano
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) coordinated a multi-agency response on Saturday following a fire outbreak at Singa Market in Kano State, which threatened lives, property, and nearby structures.
The blaze, reported around 4:30 p.m., affected sections of the busy market, billowing thick smoke and intense flames. NEMA said the agency’s Kano Operations Office was immediately activated by Director-General Zubaida Umar upon receiving the report, and a response team was promptly deployed to the scene.
Several emergency organisations joined the operation to contain the fire, including the Federal Fire Service, Kano State Fire Service, the fire units of Aspira Nigeria Limited and Dangote Group, the Kano State Emergency Management Agency, and the Nigerian Red Cross Society.
According to NEMA, sustained firefighting efforts have significantly reduced the intensity of the blaze, with the situation gradually coming under control. Firefighters and emergency responders remained on site Saturday evening to ensure full containment and prevent the fire from spreading to adjacent structures.
The agency reiterated its commitment to public safety and advised that vigilance and prompt reporting of incidents are key to preventing further losses during emergencies.
